解説 Definition
日よけとは、日光を遮るために窓や戸口に取り付けられる、布製の覆いや屋根のことです。太陽光の侵入を防ぎ、室温を下げるのに使用されます。
An awning is a covering fixed outside a building, window, or shop front to provide shade or protection from rain. It is common in homes, cafes, and stores. It usually extends outward and is often made of fabric or a similar material.

Awning appeared in English as a sailing term in the 17th century. Its exact origin is uncertain, but it is often linked to French auvent, meaning a projecting roof or cover. Because it first referred to a covering stretched over part of a ship or a window, it later came to mean the sheltering cover we know today.
