大きさや形が完全に同じであること。特に幾何学では、二つの図形が対応する部分が等しい関係を表す。また、一般的には互いに一致している、調和している状態を意味する。

語源
congruent はラテン語 congruere「ともに集まって一致する」から来ており、con-「共に」+ 語幹 gruere に分けて考えられます。直訳に近い「ぴたりと合う」がそのまま「一致する」になった語で、関連語 congruence, incongruent を見ると意味の芯がぶれません。
