継続（けいぞく）とは、何かを続けることや、中断されずに同じ状態が続くことを表します。また、法律用語として裁判の期日延期を意味することもあります。

語源
continuance は continue に名詞語尾 -ance が付いた語で、古フランス語を経てラテン語 continuare「途切れずつなぐ」に由来します。基底には con-「共に」+ ten-/tin-「保つ」の発想があり、continue, continuous も同根。だから「継続」は、切れずにつながる感じを含みます。
