字面は「オランダ式に行く」だが、実際には食事や外出の費用を各自で払うことをいう。デートや友人同士の支払いで使われ、ややくだけた表現である。そのため、単なる金額説明より、取引上の力関係や判断の含み、評価の温度まで伝える。
To go Dutch means that each person pays for their own food, ticket, or share of the cost. It is common in casual conversation. “Split the bill” is a more direct and neutral alternative.

The expression comes from a time of English-Dutch rivalry, when English developed several negative or joking phrases with Dutch. It survived as an idiom for separate payment.
