語源
squashing は squash＋-ing。squash は古フランス語 esquasser、さらに俗ラテン語系 quassare「打ち砕く」にさかのぼり、原義は「ぐしゃっと押しつぶす」。quash も同根で、形や勢いを力で崩す感覚が「潰す」「封じる」にそのまま残る。
