The womb is the organ inside a woman's body where a baby develops before birth. It is the same organ as the uterus, though womb is a more general and everyday word. It is mainly used in medical, biological, and pregnancy-related contexts.

womb の語源・成り立ち Etymology
「womb」は古英語 wamb / womb「腹、胎内」にさかのぼる古い語で、分解よりも「ふくらんだ内側の空間」という感覚が中心。スコットランド語 wame やドイツ語 Wamme が同根で、子を包む場所がそのまま語義になったと見ると腑に落ちる。
Womb is a very old English word, going back to Old English wamb or womb, which could mean "belly" or "inner cavity." Rather than being built from smaller parts, it seems to come from an old Germanic idea of a swollen or enclosed inner space. Related forms appear in Scots wame and German Wamme.
