解説 Definition
チャートは、非常に細かい石英成分からできた硬い珪質堆積岩で、白色から暗灰色までさまざまな色をとる。割れ口が鋭いため、古代には石器や刃物の材料として利用され、地質調査でも重要な岩石の一つである。
Chert is a hard, fine-grained rock made mainly of silica. It usually forms in the ground and can break with very sharp edges. The word is mainly used in geology and archaeology.
