個人よりも集団の利益や目標を優先する思想や社会的原理。
Collectivism is the idea that the needs and goals of a group are more important than those of each individual person. It is often discussed in politics, culture, and social systems. The word usually contrasts with individualism.

collective（集団の）を知っていれば土台は十分です。collect は「集める」なので、人や意見が一つに集められて group になる場面を頭に置くと、collective が自然に浮かびます。そこに -ism が付くと「思想・主義」になり、collectivism で「個人より集団を優先する考え」。individualism（個人主義）と対比で覚えると強いです。政治・社会の説明でよく出ますが、会社や文化の文脈で「team over self」の傾向を述べるときにも使えます。

collectivism は collective + -ism から成り、collective はラテン語 colligere「共に集める」に由来します。col-（共に）+ legere「集める」の発想から、「個人より集団を一つにまとめて重んじる考え」という意味になり、collect や collection も同根です。
