19は18の次で20の前に位置する自然数です。物の個数や年齢などを数えるときに使われます。1と9の二桁の数字で、十の位が1、1の位が9です。

nineteen は古英語 nihtyne にさかのぼり、nine と -teen（ten に由来）の結合です。thirteen や sixteen と同じく「10 に 9 を足した数」という作りがそのまま残っており、英語の数詞が加算式でできていることが見えてきます。
Nineteen goes back to Old English nihtyne and is made from nine plus the old ending -teen, which comes from ten. It follows the same pattern as thirteen and sixteen. The word has kept the old additive structure very clearly: "nine added to ten."
