adjusting の語源・成り立ち Etymology
adjusting は adjust＋-ing。adjust は古フランス語 ajuster、さらに後期ラテン語 adjuxtare（ad-「〜へ」＋ juxta「すぐそばに」）に由来します。もとは『ぴたりと横に寄せる』ことで、そこから『ずれを直して整える』となり、juxtapose も同じ juxta 系です。
