blimp は20世紀初頭の英語で、語源ははっきりせず、非硬式飛行船の軍用略号や擬音的な俗称から生まれたという説があります。内部のガスでふくらんだ丸い機体の印象を、そのまま軽い音の語にしたと考えると意味がつかみやすいです。blimpish は同系です。
Blimp appeared in English in the early 20th century, but its exact origin is uncertain. It may have come from military slang or from a playful sound-based nickname for a soft, rounded airship.
