camphor は古フランス語 camphre を経て中世ラテン語 camphora、さらにアラビア語 kafur、遠くはサンスクリット karpura にさかのぼります。camphorated も同系で、樟脳が東方の香料や薬材として西へ運ばれた交易の記憶が、そのまま語形に残っています。
Camphor came through Old French camphre and Medieval Latin camphora, from Arabic kafur and ultimately Sanskrit karpura. The word traveled west along with the material itself, so its form preserves a long trade history. English camphorated is a later word built from the same root.
