途中の地点や段階を示す語で、行程や出来事がまだ完全に終わっていない状態にあることを表します。進行中の行為や時間の真ん中あたりに立っていることを示すときに使います。途中で立ち止まったり方向転換したりするケースでも、その“途中”である感覚を伝えることができます。
Midway means at a point in the middle of a journey, process, or period of time. It is used when something happens after the start but before the end. It often appears in more formal writing than in casual conversation.

mid- は midterm, midnight の mid と同じ「真ん中」、way は「道・進み方」。この2つを見たら midway は「道の真ん中あたりまで来た状態」とまとめて覚える。場所の途中だけでなく、旅程・作業・議論・映画鑑賞など進行中のことにも広く使え、midway through the movie, stop midway が定番。halfway とかなり近いが、midway はやや書き言葉寄りで「完了前の中ほどで」という感覚。middle は単なる中央、midway は始点と終点のあいだの途中。
