脳の硬膜の下側に位置する解剖学的な領域を指す医学用語。硬膜下血腫などで用いられる。
Subdural means located under the dura mater, the tough outer covering of the brain or spinal cord. It is mainly used in medical contexts, especially when describing bleeding, fluid, or space inside the head.

sub- は subway・submarine と同じ「下に／下の」。医療語では subcutaneous（皮下の）と同じ感覚で追うと、subdural も「何かの下にある位置語」だと見抜きやすい。dural 単独は見慣れなくても、重要なのは sub- の位置関係。特に epidural（硬膜外）とセットで比べると、epi- は外側・上、sub- は下と整理できる。脳の膜の図を思い浮かべ、subdural hematoma（硬膜下血腫）まで一緒に覚えると実戦で崩れにくい。
