To endure means to suffer through something difficult, painful, or unpleasant and continue without giving up. It can also mean to last for a long time.

endure は「いやな状態が続いても、途中で折れずに持ちこたえる」と覚えると残りやすい。durable（丈夫な）、duration（継続時間）を知っていれば、dur- に「長くもつ・続く」感覚を見つけやすい。よく endure pain / hardship / stress / years of criticism の形で出て、苦痛や重圧を受けながら耐える場面に合う。bear よりやや硬く、tolerate より苦しさが強い。survive は「生き残る」で、endure はその苦しさをしのぐことに焦点がある。
