Adenocarcinoma is a type of cancer that starts in gland-forming cells or tissues. It is a medical term often used for cancers in organs such as the lung, colon, pancreas, or breast.

まず後半の carcinoma をひとかたまりで覚えると楽です。医学英語では -carcinoma が「癌」を表す頻出パターンで、lung carcinoma などにも出ます。前半の adeno- は adenoma や adenoid でも見かける「腺」グループ。つまり adeno + carcinoma で「腺組織由来の癌」と整理できます。lung adenocarcinoma, colon adenocarcinoma のように臓器名＋adenocarcinomaで読む場面が多く、sarcoma や lymphoma とは別系統だと区別すると定着しやすいです。
