comparability は compare + -able + -ity から成る名詞。compare はラテン語 comparare「並べて等しさを見る」にさかのぼり、com-「共に」+ par「等しい」からできているので、「比べられる性質」すなわち比較可能性という意味になる。関連語は compare, parity。
Comparability is built from compare + -able + -ity. Compare comes from Latin comparare, based on com- meaning "together" and par meaning "equal," so the original idea was bringing things together to judge their equality.
