解説 Definition
複数の地点や接続点を同時に扱う性質を表す形容詞。会議システム、通信回線、ネットワークなどで、二者間ではなく三地点以上を結んだり、多数の端点を一つの仕組みで扱ったりする場合に使う。

multi- が付いたらまず「1つではなく複数」を思い出す。point はそのまま「点・接続点」なので、multipoint は直訳に近く「点がたくさんある構成」。特に通信では point-to-point が1対1なのに対し、multipoint は1対多、または多地点同時接続という対比で覚えると定着しやすい。video conference や multipoint connection のように、複数拠点を一つの仕組みで結ぶ場面で出やすい。multiplayer, multilingual と同じ multi- の感覚で拾うと意味を外しにくい。
