opportunismは opportune + -ism で、ラテン語 opportunus「港へ入るのに都合がよい」に由来します。ob-「〜へ」+ portus「港」と分けると、opportunity や port のように“入りやすい港”から「その場で得な側へ動く姿勢」へ変わったと分かります。
