piggybacking は piggyback からで、見た目ほど pig「豚」が語源の中心ではなく、古い口語 pickaback / pick-pack が崩れた形とされます。もとは「背中に乗ること」で、そこから他人の力や仕組みに乗って進む「便乗」の意味が自然に生まれました。
Piggybacking comes from piggyback, but the word probably did not begin with pig in the animal sense. It seems to have grown out of older dialect forms such as pickaback or pick-pack, which referred to carrying something on the back. From the physical idea of riding on someone's back, it later developed the figurative sense of using another person's work, system, or movement to get ahead.
