More than one premier: the heads of national, provincial, state, or regional governments in political systems that use this title. The exact office represented depends on the country and level of government being discussed.
使い方 Usage
- provincial premiers「各州の首相」や the premiers met「首相・首長たちが会談した」のように使います。 Common patterns include provincial premiers and the premiers met.
- premier が国の首相を指すとは限りません。どの政府の長かは、国名や provincial などの周囲の語から判断します。 A premier does not necessarily lead a country. Use the country name and nearby words such as provincial to identify the level of government.

premiers の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ラテン語「primus(最初の)」に由来し、古フランス語「premier」を経て英語に入りました。語根「prim-(最初)」に接尾辞「-ier」が付き、「序列の最初の人」が政界のトップたる首相の意味へ発展しました。同語根の関連語に「prime(主要な)」があります。
Premiers is the plural of premier. Premier came into English through French premier, “first,” from Latin primarius and ultimately primus, also meaning “first.” The political noun developed from the idea of the first or leading minister and later became a title for heads of various national and regional governments. The final -s is the regular English plural ending and is pronounced /z/ after the voiced sound at the end of premier.
