Quackery means dishonest or false medical treatment that claims to cure people but is not based on real science. It is used to criticize fake health methods, products, or people who deceive patients. The word has a strongly negative meaning.

quackery は quack（やぶ医者・ペテン医療屋）に -ery（行為・商売）が付いた語で、quack はオランダ語 kwakzalver 由来です。もとは「塗り薬を売りながら大声で客を集める人」で、quack や quacksalver に同じ語源が見えます。
Quackery is built from quack, meaning a fake healer, plus the suffix -ery for a practice or trade. Quack came into English from Dutch kwakzalver, originally a person who sold ointments and loudly attracted customers. Over time, the word shifted from noisy medicine-selling to dishonest medical fraud. A related older English form is quacksalver.
