reload の語源・成り立ち Etymology
re-「再び」＋load「積む」。load は古英語由来で「荷を載せる」が原義なので、reload は文字通り「もう一度載せる」。そこから弾の再装填やページの再読み込みを表す。関連語は unload, overload。
`Reload` is made of `re-`, meaning "again," and `load`, from Old English, meaning "put a burden or cargo on." So its basic sense was simply "load again." It later extended from physical loading to things like putting new bullets into a weapon or loading a web page again.
