Argon is a chemical element and a colorless, odorless gas in the air. It is often used in things like light bulbs and welding because it does not react easily with other substances.

argon は1894年に付けられた新ラテン語名で、ギリシャ語 argos「怠けた・働かない」に由来します。a-「ない」+ ergon「仕事」からできており、ほかの元素と反応しにくい“働かない気体”という性質が名前になりました。ergonomics や energy も同じ ergon 系です。
