sessions の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ラテン語 sessio(座ること)から派生し、フランス語 session を経て英語に入った。語根は sedēre(座る)で、関連語に seat(座席)や sedentary(座りがちな)がある。人が集まって「座る」会合が原義で、会議や授業の一区切りを指すようになった。
Sessions is the regular plural of session. Session entered English through Old French from Latin sessio, meaning “a sitting,” which comes from sedere, “to sit.” The early sense concerned a formal sitting of an assembly or court. It later broadened to any organized period of meeting, study, treatment, or activity. The plural ending -s indicates multiple distinct periods or meetings.
