Wouldst is an old form of "would" used with "thou." It appears in old literature, poetry, and religious texts. It is not used in normal modern English except for an old-fashioned or dramatic style.
See `would` first, then notice the old-fashioned `-st` ending. That `-st` often marks old second-person forms, as in language with `thou`. So remember it as the archaic `thou would` form, not as a separate modern verb.
Thou wouldst have known better than to trust him.
Wouldst thou help me with this task?
He spake, saying thou wouldst return by evening.

Wouldst is an old form of would with the second-person singular ending -st. Would comes from Old English wolde, related to willan, meaning "to wish" or "to want." It shows how the old idea of will or desire developed into the past or conditional form would.
