addressable は address + -able。address は古フランス語 adresser を経て、ラテン系 directus「まっすぐ」と ad-「…へ」にさかのぼり、direct や dress と同根です。『対象へ届く』感覚から、指定できる・呼びかけ可能な意味になります。
Addressable is formed from address and -able. Address came through Old French adresser and goes back to Latin roots meaning "toward" and "straight," the same family as direct and dress. The central idea is directing something toward a target, so addressable developed the sense of being able to be specified, reached, or dealt with.
