affective はラテン語 afficere『働きかける』に由来し、ad-『〜へ』が af- に変化した要素と facere『する』が土台にある。affect や affection も同根で、『心に作用を受けた状態』という原感覚から、『感情の・情動に関わる』という意味が生まれた。
