解説 Definition
物や場所、人、出来事などが実際につながっている、または内容的に関係している状態を表す形容詞です。機械やネットワークの接続だけでなく、都市同士の交通の結び付きや、出来事どうしの関連のような抽象的なつながりについても使えます。
Connected means joined to something else physically, by system, or by relationship. It can also mean related in meaning or closely linked in some way.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
まずは動詞 connect「つなぐ」を芯にして、connected は「つながっている状態」と押さえると覚えやすいです。-ed が付いて「つないだ」→「つながった」という感覚。物理的な接続だけでなく、ideas are connected のように「話や出来事が関連している」にも広がります。be connected to ... の形が頻出で、connected devices, connected world も定番。disconnected と対比すると意味が安定します。
Start from `connect`, then add `-ed`: `connected` means in a joined state. Use the pattern `be connected to ...` to help it stick. It works for both real links and idea links, so `connected devices` and `the ideas are connected` both fit.

ラテン語 connectere（結び合わせる）から。con-（共に）+ nectere（結ぶ、縛る）の構成。関連語：nexus（結びつき）、annex（併合する）。「複数のものを一つに縛り合わせる」が原義で、物理的にも抽象的にも繋がりを表す。
