特定の調や主音を中心にして組み立てられていない音楽・響きを指します。十二音技法のように12音を体系的に扱う場合もありますが、無調そのものは必ずしも「12音すべてが等価」という意味ではありません。
Atonal describes music that does not have a clear main key or tonal center. Instead of following the usual patterns of major or minor music, it often sounds less settled or less predictable. This word is mainly used in music theory and descriptions of modern or experimental music.
