一つのものが二つに分かれること。道や川などが二股に分岐する現象。
覚え方のコツ
`bi-` を見たらまず「2」を疑う癖をつけると覚えやすいです。`bicycle` や `bilingual` と同じで、`bifurcation` も核心は「一つが二つに分かれる」こと。まず動詞 `bifurcate`「二股に分かれる」を押さえ、`-tion` が付いて名詞化した形だと見ると整理しやすいです。地図で道や川がY字に割れる場面を思い浮かべると定着しやすく、議論・進路・系統が分かれる場面にも広げて覚えられます。`split` よりやや硬めで説明的、`branch` は枝や支流そのもの、`bifurcation` は「分岐という現象」に焦点がある語です。
