amuse は古フランス語 amuser にさかのぼり、a- + muse（ぼんやり見つめる、気を取られる）と考えられます。amusingly は -ing と -ly が重なった形で、amuse や amusement と並べると、「気をそらす」が「面白がらせる」へ育った語だと見えてきます。
"Amusingly" comes from English amuse, which came through French from Old French amuser. The older idea was to make someone pause or be distracted, and this later shifted to the sense of pleasantly holding attention. With the endings -ing and -ly, the word developed into an adverb meaning in an amusing way; related words include amusement and muse.
