生合成とは、生物体内で化学反応を通じて複雑な有機分子が合成されるプロセスです。栄養素や単純な物質から、より複雑な物質が作られる過程を指します。
Biosynthesis is the process by which living organisms produce complex chemical substances from simpler ones. This term is used in biology and chemistry when talking about how cells make natural compounds.

bio- は biology, biodegradable などの「生命・生物」、synthesis は synthesize「複数の材料を組み合わせて作る」を思い出すと、biosynthesis は「生物が体内で作り上げること」とつながります。単なる synthesis だと人工的な合成も含めますが、biosynthesis は生体内で酵素が働いて起こる点が重要。photosynthesis（光合成）も「生物が作る」仲間として並べると定着しやすいです。
Use the parts: `bio-` means living things, and synthesis means putting parts together to make something. That makes biosynthesis easy to store as a science word built from familiar pieces. It also helps to compare it with photosynthesis, another process word with `-synthesis`.

biosynthesis は、ギリシャ語 bios「生命」＋ synthesis「組み立てること」から成る。syn-「共に」＋ thesis「置く」が核なので、生体が成分を寄せ集めて作る「生合成」の意味になる。関連語は biography, synthetic。
Biosynthesis combines Greek bios "life" with synthesis, meaning "putting together." Synthesis itself comes from roots meaning "together" and "to place." The word therefore developed the sense of living systems building substances by joining parts together; compare biography and synthetic.
