陶磁器とは、粘土を高温で焼き固めて作られた器や工芸品の総称です。陶器と磁器の両方を含む概念で、日本では古くから食器や美術品として発展してきました。地域によって独自の技法やデザインが発達しており、世界中で愛好されています。

Ceramics is the plural or collective form of ceramic. Ceramic entered English through French and Latin forms derived from Greek keramikos, meaning “of pottery,” from keramos, “potter’s clay” or “earthen vessel.” The same Greek root is associated with Kerameikos, the potters’ district of ancient Athens. Its history therefore preserves the close connection between clay, firing, and pottery making.
