cesium はラテン語 caesius「青みがかった空色」に由来し、発見時のスペクトル線の青さから名づけられました。英語 caesious も同根で、元素名なのに意味の芯が「空の青」にあると知ると、金属名の響きが急に色を帯びて見えてきます。
Cesium is named from Latin caesius, meaning a bluish sky color. The name was chosen because of the bright blue lines seen in its spectrum when the element was identified. So even though it is a metal name, its history is really about the color blue; caesious is related.
