Emissivity is a measure of how well a surface gives off heat as radiation. It is mainly used in physics, engineering, and material science when comparing how different materials release thermal energy.

emissivity は emit（放出する）を知っていると覚えやすい。emission（排出・放出）と同じ語族で、-ity は「性質・度合い」を表すので、「どれだけ放つ性質か」と捉えると定着しやすい。物理では reflectivity（反射率）と対で出やすく、反射せず自分から熱をよく出す表面ほど emissivity が高い。blackbody has emissivity 1.0 という典型例までセットで覚えると強い。
