まず中心の sexual を見て「性・性的なこと」と押さえ、-ity は名詞化なので全体で「性的なあり方」の語だと捉えると覚えやすいです。区別の決め手は先頭で、homosexuality と並べて見ると hetero- のほうが「同じではない側」だと整理できます。sexual orientation の文脈でよく出て、heterosexual relationship / heterosexual men and women のように使われます。単なる sex の有無ではなく、恋愛・性的に向かう相手のタイプを表す語だとセットで記憶するとぶれません。

The word was built to express attraction directed toward a different sex. Its meaning follows its parts very closely, and the same hetero- appears in words like heterogeneous.
