Hypostasis is a technical word whose meaning depends on the field. In philosophy or theology, it can mean the underlying reality, substance, or a distinct person, especially in discussions of the Trinity. ギリシャ語 hypostasis に由来し、hypo-「下に」+ stasis「立つこと」から、もとは「下で支える土台・実体」の意。static や ecstasy も同じ sta-「立つ」系で、目に見えないものの背後にある“立って支える本体”と考えると腑に落ちます。
Hypostasis comes from Greek hypostasis, made from hypo- "under" and stasis "standing." It first meant something like a foundation, support, or underlying substance. From that idea, it came to mean the deeper reality or essential substance beneath what appears on the surface; compare static and ecstasy from the same "stand" root.
