If something is impracticable, it is not realistic or possible to do in an effective way. The idea may sound possible in theory, but in real conditions it is too difficult, costly, or inconvenient.

practical（実用的な・実行できる）を知っていれば、im- が付いて反対、-able で「〜できる」と見て、全体で「実行できない」と取りやすい。impractical が「現実的でない・不便」寄りなのに対し、impracticable は「計画として実施不能」にかなり近い強さ。an impracticable plan / proposal の形で覚えると、案はあっても運用段階で回らない感じが残る。impossible ほど数学的に絶対無理とまでは言わず、現実にはほぼ無理という場面でも使える。

impracticable は否定の im- と、「行う」を表す語根 practic-、可能を示す -able から成ります。practice や practical と同根で、ギリシャ語 praktikos を経ており、「やってみても形にならない」感覚から「実行不可能な」になりました。
Impracticable is made from im- "not" + practicable, from the same root as practice and practical. That root goes back through Late Latin and Greek praktikos, from a verb meaning "to do" or "act." The word originally suggested something that cannot be carried out in practice, and then more generally something that will not work in real life.
