intracellular はラテン語 intra-「内側に」+ cellular から成り、cell はラテン語 cella「小部屋」にさかのぼります。cell や intercellular と同じ核を持ち、「細胞という小部屋の中にある」と考えると、細胞内の意味がそのまま見えます。
