細胞内の微小な構造体や成分に関する形容詞。細胞を構成する分子やオルガネラなどの小さな生物学的単位を指す。
Subcellular means relating to parts or processes inside a cell. It is mainly used in biology and medicine when talking about structures smaller than the whole cell, such as organelles.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
まず cellular =「細胞の」を軸に覚え、sub- が付くと「その下の階層・さらに細かい所」という感覚を足すと整理しやすいです。つまり subcellular は「細胞そのもの」ではなく、「細胞の中をさらに拡大したレベル」。organ, tissue, cell, subcellular のように階層で置くと定着します。subcellular localization, subcellular structures など、生物学で“細胞内のどこにあるか・どの微小構造か”を述べる場面でよく出ます。intracellular が広く「細胞内の」、subcellular はより細かな構成要素寄り、という違いも意識すると混同しにくいです。
Use the prefix sub-, which often means "below" or "smaller level." If cellular is about cells, subcellular is about an even smaller level inside the cell. A good memory chain is organ, tissue, cell, subcellular. This helps separate it from the broader word intracellular.
