kraalは南アフリカのオランダ語kraalから入り、その元はポルトガル語curral「家畜囲い」です。corralと同根で、さらに俗ラテン語*curraleにさかのぼるとされ、『家畜を囲う場所』がそのまま家畜囲い場の意味になりました。
