解説 Definition
通知（つうち）するとは、誰かに大事な情報や知らせを伝えることです。重要な出来事が起きたことを相手に知らせます。
To notify someone means to formally or clearly tell them that something has happened or will happen. It is often used in official, professional, or written communication, such as messages from a company, school, or system. It is a little more formal than simply saying tell or inform in everyday speech.

notify はラテン語 notificare にさかのぼり、notus「知られた」＋ficare（facere「作る」）で「知らせて既知にする」が原義。notice や note も同じ not- を含み、だから notify には情報を送るだけでなく、相手に正式に気づかせる響きがある。
Notify comes from Latin notificare, built from notus meaning "known" and facere meaning "make." Its early sense was "to make known" or "give formal notice." It is related to notice and note, which share the same idea of something becoming known.
