名詞とは、人、もの、場所、思想、感情など、具体的または抽象的な対象を表す品詞です。文法の基本的な要素です。
A noun is a word used for a person, place, thing, or idea. It is one of the basic parts of speech in grammar. Common nouns and proper nouns are two main types.

noun は「文の中で名前を与える語」と考えると整理しやすいです。person, city, book のような具体物だけでなく、love, idea, information のような抽象的なものも noun になります。verb が動作、adjective が性質なら、noun はその対象そのもの。主語・目的語の中心に来やすい基本パーツとして覚えると定着します。さらに pronoun は noun の代わり、proper noun は固有名詞、common noun は一般名詞、という周辺語まで一緒に結ぶと混同しにくくなります。
