November は「11月」ですが、語源の novem は「9」。昔のローマ暦では3月から数えた9番目の月だった、と覚えると残りやすいです。今のカレンダーでは winter が近づく11番目の月なので、Thanksgiving in November のように秋の終わりの行事と結びつけると実用的です。似た形の novel（新しい）とは別で、November の nov は「新しい」ではなく「9」に由来します。

ラテン語 November は novem（9）に月名語尾が付いた形に由来します。古代ローマ暦では3月が年の始まりだったため「9番目の月」でしたが、1月始まりになった後も名前だけが残り、現在の「11月」を表す語になりました。novel（新しい）とは語源が別です。
