オクタン価はガソリンのノッキング耐性を示す指標で、数値が高いほど燃焼が安定しやすくなる。主にイソオクタンと正ヘプタンの混合比で測り、異なる燃料の品質や適性を比較するのに使う。化学物質としては特定の炭化水素のグループを指し、燃焼特性が基準となる。
