解説 Definition
「～のような」という意味の接続詞・前置詞で、二つのものを比較して類似性を示す際に使われます。「まるで～のように」という比喩表現や、例を挙げる際の「例えば～のような」という用法が一般的です。動詞の「好む・気に入る」とは別の用法です。

like の語源・成り立ち Etymology
likeは古英語gelicが語源で、ge-（共に）+ lic（形・姿）という分解が意識できます。もとは「姿が同じ」が原義なので、「〜のような」の意味が育ち、似ているとは見た目やあり方が重なることだとわかります。alikeやlikelyも同系です。
