解説 Definition
依頼や申し出を丁寧にするために添える語で、日本語では「お願いします」「どうぞ」に当たる。注文や頼み事、相手に何かを勧める場面で非常によく使われ、文頭でも文末でも置ける。命令をそのまま言うよりやわらかく、礼儀正しい響きを加える。

please の語源・成り立ち Etymology
please は古フランス語 plaisir、さらにラテン語 placere「気に入る」にさかのぼる。核の plac- は「喜ばせる」で、pleasure や pleasant も同根。相手の気にかなうよう願う表現が、「どうぞ」「お願いします」になった。
Please comes through Old French plaisir from Latin placere, meaning "to be pleasing." An expression appealing to another person's wishes developed into the polite request word.
