Definition
Overexposed usually means that a photo is too bright because it received too much light. It can also describe a person or topic that gets too much public attention, but the photography meaning is especially common.
Memory Tip
Split it into over + exposed. In photography, exposure is the amount of light, so overexposed means too much light and a picture that looks washed out. The same idea works for people too: someone overexposed appears in public so much that they lose impact.

Etymology
Overexposed combines over-, meaning "too much," with exposed. Expose comes from Latin exponere, from ex- "out" and ponere "to place." The basic idea is "put out" or "leave open," and with over- it developed into the sense of being exposed too much. Related words include expose and exposition.
