pored は pore「じっと見つめる・熟読する」に過去語尾 -ed が付いた形です。pore は中英語 poren に由来し、語源は不詳ながら、poring や pore over に残るように『一点を見続けて没頭する』感覚が核です。つまり pored は『目を落とし続けて読んだ』です。
Pored is the past form of pore, meaning to look at something very closely for a long time. Pore comes from Middle English poren, though its deeper origin is uncertain. Over time it kept the strong sense of steady, absorbed attention, as in pore over a book or document.
